India Dravidian - To Malabar and Kerala
Duration: 11 Nights / 12 Days
The delightful south; nearly untouched by invasions throughout its history, the Indian heritage is more intact here than in other regions of the country.  
(Destination : Chennai-Kanchipuram-Mahabalipuram-Pondicherry-Chidambaram-Tanjore-Trichy-Madurai-Periyar-Kumarakam (Back water)-Cochin-Mumbai)

DAY 1 : Chennai 
Arrive Chennai in the morning...! Welcome and transfer to the hotel. Chennai is the gateway to south India and also an important harbour. Afternoon, visit the St. George Fort built in 1640 A.D now the Tamil Nadu State Legislature, San Thomas Cathedral, and the famous bronze Museum. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 2 : Chennai / Kanchipuram/ Mahabalipuram (140 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, depart for Mahabalipuram enroute visiting Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram is one of India's seven sacred Hindu cities. It is also known as the city of thousand temples. It is also famous for its silk saris. Thereafter, proceed to Mahaballipuram, the ancient seaport city of Pallavas, known for its rock hewn temples. Upon arrival, transfer to Hotel. Afternoon visit Mahabalipuram. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 3 : Mahabalipuram / Pondicherry (100 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, drive to Pondicherry; the erstwhile capital of French India. A part of India since 1954, it still retains its French character. In the afternoon visit the famous Aurobindo Ashram and visit the French quaters. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 4 : Pondicherry /Chidambaram/ Tanjore  (180 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, leave for Tanjore enroute visiting Chidambram. Visit the beautiful temple of Nataraja - dancing Shiva. Continue towards Tanjore. Upon arrival, transfer to Hotel. Afternoon sightseeing of Tanjore includes visit of the Brihadeshwara temple, one of the finest examples of Dravidian art. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 5 : Tanjore / Trichy / Madurai (200 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, leave for Madurai enroute vistiting Trichy. Sightseeing of Trichy includes visit of Srirangam Temple, the temple of Ranganath Swami dedicated to Vishnu with its 21 gopurams. Enjoy a short walk at the foot of the Fort of Rock. Upon arrival in Madurai, transfer to Hotel. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 6 :  Madurai 
Morning after breakfast, half day sightseeing of Madurai- the cultural capital of the South India and has been a centre of learning for centuries. Visit The Meenakshi temple. Tirumalai Nayak Palace. Afternoon free.  In the evening, attend the night ceremony at Meenakshi Temple. Overnight at the Hotel.  

DAY 7 : Madurai / Periyar  (140 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, drive to Periyar in Kerala. In the afternoon enjoy a boat cruise to discover the park. Animals found here include elephant, sambar, gaur and wild boars and birds like ibis and grey heron. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 8 : Periyar/ Kumarakom  (125 Kms/By car)
Morning after breakfast, drive to Kumarakom and upon arrival, transfer to Hotel. Rest of the day free for independent activities/in house activities i.e. sunset cruise on Vembanad Lake. Overnight at the Hotel.

DAY 9 : Kumarakom/Alleppey by overnight House Boat. 
Early morning visit bird sanctuary. Morning after breakfast, board House Boat for overnight trip on "backwaters cruise", which will take you through the tropical countryside, Palm fringed narrow canals, the vast expanse of paddy fields and the neat tiny hamlets. Lunch, dinner and overnight on House Boat.

DAY 10 : De-board House at Alleppey and then to Cochin (60 Kms/By car) 
Morning after breakfast, de-board House boat at Alleppey. Meet/assist upon arrival and transfer to Cochin. Afternoon sightseeing of Cochin. Cochin, is Kerala's center of trade for innumerable centuries. Cochin boasts of one of the oldest churches in India, cantilevered Chinese fishing nets, the historical Palace built by the Portuguese, Jewtown, complete with an immaculately preserved synagogues. Witness a spectacle of the Kathakali dances. Overnight at the Hotel. 

DAY 11 : Cochin / Mumbai (Morning flight) 
Morning after breakfast,  transfer to airport to take a flight to Mumbai. Meet/assist upon arrival and proceed for sightseeing, visiting Gateway of India, the Hanging Gardens, and Marine Drive or "Queens Necklace", the street lights shining like jewels at night. After which enjoy a leisurely walk towards  Victoria station and the market of Colaba. After sightseeing transfer to Hotel for overnight stay. 

DAY 12 : Mumbai / departure
Morning after breakfast, transfer to airport to board flight back to Home/onward destination.

  • Accommodation in Twin / Double Sharing Room for 11 nights/12 days at 3-4 star Hotels on bed & breakfast basis except on House Boat where on full board basis.
