Introduction to Yoga

The science of Yoga is a comprehensive approach to development. It has several branches that contribute to the development of various areas of human beings: physical, psychological and physical, mental and spiritual. Yoga, like Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine), is part of human knowledge going back several thousand years. Sent to us by the yogis of India, Yoga has become part of the heritage of humanity. Although requiring an apprenticeship with a skilled and experienced yoga expert, yoga is a method based on individual effort, freedom and individual capability. Whatever form of practice is used, it takes the reins of its fate and acquires the means of genuine autonomy. The variety of numerous variations of each Yoga Asana or pose makes this science easily accessible to almost anyone of any age group and state of flexibility and fitness. This this one of the reasons why there are tens and millions of people who practice Yoga regularly all over the World today.

It is believed that Bhartihari eventually came to Haridwar to meditate by the banks of the holy Ganga. When he died, his brother constructed the Ghat in his name which later came to be known as Har-Ki-Pauri. It is the most important Ghat on the River Ganga, where a holy dip is a must for every devotee.

Day 04 : Haridwar - Rishikesh

Yoga is a science of right living and it works when integrated in our daily life. It works on all aspects of the person: the physical, mental, emotional, psychic and spiritual. The word yoga means 'unity' or 'oneness' and is derived from the Sanskrit word 'yuj' which means 'to join'. Gain a general idea of the subject of Yoga, seeking its place in nature, its own character, its object in human evolution.

The Importance of Yoga Poses:

haridwar

Yoga poses have been developed over centuries of research and experience. They have been found to be extremely effective in:

  • Increasing flexibility of the body and freeing all the energy blocks.
  • Besides increasing flexibility, this leads to a healthier body.
  • Helping to lose excess flab and weight - another cause of ill health.
  • Massaging the internal organs of the body and the rarely stimulated parts such as the thyroid gland.
  • Helping to treat several health disorders - from common ones such as backaches and arthritis to 'seemingly' unrelated disorders such as stammering.

Day 05 : Rishikesh

Today spend your day learning & performing Yoga, the surest way to complete health and later, take a tour of the Spa.

Day 06 : Rishikesh

rishikesh

Meditation ... Towards a Stress Free Life

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means 'a cessation of the thought process' It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one. Meditation (Dhyana in Sanskrit) is a specific term in yoga philosophy. It is different from the term meditation used by most people. The latter really means keeping the brain peaceful.

Commonly today, people can mean any one of these stages when they refer to the term meditation. Some schools only teach concentration techniques, some relaxation, and others teach free form contemplative activities like just sitting and awaiting absorption. Some call it meditation without giving credence to yoga for fear of being branded 'eastern'. But yoga is not something eastern or western as it is universal in its approach and application.
